Advantus has served Pittsburgh and the surrounding region for over 20 years, providing a wide range of services tailored to each client’s needs. We work alongside our clients to support design, strengthen construction delivery, and help plan for long-term building performance.
Building Commissioning
Advantus has provided commissioning services since 2004. Our team works closely with owners, designers, and contractors to ensure that building systems are installed, tested, and performing in line with project requirements and operational goals. Commissioning is a code requirement for many projects and remains one of the most effective ways to deliver performance, reliability, and long-term value. Our commissioning process typically includes design reviews, submittal and controls reviews, creating and reviewing pre-functional checklists, observing functional testing, tracking issues, and overseeing owner training. We provide commissioning for a wide range of building types and are experienced with both LEED and code-required commissioning.
Sustainability
We support design, construction, and operations teams in creating and maintaining healthy and high-performing buildings and communities. Our services range from developing sustainability plans and carbon emissions inventories to guiding projects through LEED and other certification programs. We focus on strategies that improve energy and water efficiency, enhance materials selection, reduce waste, and strengthen other essential features of sustainable infrastructure. Our team is experienced with a variety of sustainability frameworks, including LEED, WELL, Living Building Challenge, Fitwel, and the 2030 Challenge.
Environmental Compliance
Advantus has extensive experience with Clean Water Act (CWA) compliance, including industrial Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plan / Preparedness; Prevention and Contingency Plan (SWPPP / PPC) development; National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) industrial and commercial permitting; wastewater pretreatment engineering studies and discharge applications; and regulatory negotiation. We also have experience with Environmental Management Systems (EMS), sustainability performance plans, remedial investigation and reporting, facility planning, and public outreach and education.
Construction Quality Assurance & Coordination
Our team provides quality assurance and coordination throughout the construction phase, including design and bid document reviews, schedule tracking, field investigations, and jobsite safety monitoring. We help ensure compliance with project scope and assist in evaluating equipment condition, life cycle costs, punch list items, and project closeout.
Construction Inspection
We offer a wide range of construction inspection services to support project quality and progress. Our work has included scheduling, coordinating PA One Call-submittals, site planning, documenting progress, reviewing safety practices, collecting GPS data, overseeing restoration, and conducting closing surveys. Our inspectors serve as a consistent on-site presence, helping ensure strong communication, accountability, and successful execution in the field.
MEP Assessments
Our team conducts mechanical, HVAC, plumbing, and energy assessments to help clients plan capital upgrades, address deferred maintenance, and improve performance. We evaluate system condition, functionality, and energy use, combining field investigations with existing documentation and stakeholder input. With decades of combined design experience, we bring technical insight and practical recommendations to inform long-term facility planning.
Project Management
Advantus provides project coordination and owner-focused support throughout design and construction. Our team assists with schedule tracking, design and submittal reviews, field reporting, and facilitating clear communication between project stakeholders. We attend and lead project meetings, monitor progress, and help resolve issues as they arise. We often serve as an extension of the owner’s team, bridging gaps between technical, operational, and construction priorities.
